Why a Steam Bath For Baby Is a Miracle

Baby Routines

Why a steam bath is a miracle for your baby’s cough and cold

There is nothing worse than a sick baby!

When your little one’s nose is stuffy, eyes are puffy, and has a cough, then it’s time to jump into overdrive and try to do everything we can to make our baby feel better.

One of the BEST things to help my daughter feel better quicker is a steam bath. Trust me, a steam bath for baby is like a miracle!

A steam bath for baby is one of the best ways to help your baby get better from a cold and cough because it can:

  • loosen up all of the “stuffed” mucus
  • provide relief from clogged passages
  • help them breathe easier
  • and ultimately shortens the length of their cold and cough!

A win-win-win-win!

What is a steam bath?

A steam bath is when you make your bathroom nice and steamy so you can sit with your baby in the steam and let the steam loosen the clogged passageways.

How to make a steam bath

You make a steam bath for baby (or any child!) by turning your shower on super-hot and let your bathroom steam up like a steam room. You sit with your baby in the steamed bathroom for 15-20 minutes with the door closed, and your baby’s cough and clogged nose will begin to loosen up! Let your baby breathe in the warm, saturated air. It’s so easy!

You do NOT touch the shower or the hot water. Do NOT put your baby in scalding hot water. You’re just using the hot water to create steam.

Pro Tip: I even started purchasing these essential oils and dropping them in the shower as the steam is going because it further opens up clogged passages!

To help you track your baby’s symptoms and progress, download my FREE Mommy & Me planner and baby tracker combo! Plan your tasks plus track your baby’s activities in ONE place!

Benefits of a steam bath for baby

Loosen up phlegm

One of the major contributors to a child’s cough and cold is phlegm.

Babies don’t know how to blow their noses or intentionally cough up excess phlegm as adults can do. Because of this, they just continue to suck in and all of that nasty mucus gets caught in their throat and chest.

The best way to loosen up and get rid of this trapped mucus is a steam bath for baby. The steam from the shower will begin to loosen the mucus and it will slowly drain from your child’s nose- riding it from their throat and chest!

Baby Napping

Relieve the sinus pressure

A cold can bring about some crazy sinus pressure, especially when you have a sinus cold!

It feels like you have a heavyweight glued to your forehead and all the pressure builds up in your nose area.

When a baby feels this way, they tend to get very frustrated and agitated because they cannot relieve the pressure. A steam bath for baby helps relieves this sinus pressure because as the steam loosens the mucus it helps relieve the intense pressure that your child may be feeling!

Why your sick baby needs a steam bath

Open clogged passages

As I mentioned, a steam bath for baby can loosen the mucus and phlegm that is stuck in your baby’s nose, throat, and chest. Because the mucus is being relived and is now draining because of the steam, it is opening the clogged passages that are making your baby “stuffy”.

A steam bath will reduce the stuffy nose and open up their passages to breathe easier! No more clogged and stuffy nose when your baby is eating! AND the steam works immediately so your baby’s next feeding should go so much smoother because your little one can breathe better!

Why a steam bath is a miracle for your baby’s cough and cold

Prevent further build-up

One of the reasons a baby is sick so long is because they cannot voluntarily get rid of mucus in their nose or cough out built up phlegm. Because a steam bath loosens all the mucus, relieves the sinus pressure and opens the clogged passages, it prevents further mucus build up.

So instead of having the music build up for days and days and wait for it to drain, you can sit with your baby in the steamy bathroom every night for 20 minutes and it can prevent any more mucus build-up!

Shorten the length of coughs and cold

I love the steam bath because it not only works immediately but it also essentially shortens the length of my baby’s cough and cold!

Because all of the mucus and pressure are being released and my baby;’ passages are being opened, it helps my daughter get over a cold in about 3-4 days, instead of 7-10 days!

Pro Tip: Once the bathroom is nice and steamy and the bathroom door is closed to keep the steam in, you can run your baby a bath with this awesome soothing, essential oil Epsom salt and have your baby sit in a warm bath with the surrounding steam! It works wonders!

So, there you have it! I absolutely love steam baths and every time my daughter has a cough or cold the steam baths immediately start to make her feel better! Tips To Easily Get Your House Ready for Guests

Homemaking

Easy Ways to Get Your House Ready for Guests

If you’re anything like me, as much as I love having family and friends over, I absolutely hate to get my house ready for guests. I’m a busy mom and I don’t always have hours and hours to get my house perfect for guests. So, I came up with some super easy, quick and most of all practical ways to get your house ready for guests!

Easy Ways to Get Your House Ready for Guests

Whether you live in a one-bedroom apartment or a 6-room house, these tips will help you get your house ready for guests in the fastest and easiest way possible. Above all, these tips are practical for everyday homes! These tips also come in HANDY when you have to get your house ready for guests in a flash. I’ve used these tips for years now and in every home that I have helped get ready for guests so I would love to share them with you.

To help you get your house ready for guests in a flash, I created this Ultimate Prep Your Home for Guests Checklist so you can easily get your house all tidy and prepared for guests! Download the FREE Checklist now!

So, let’s get down to it!

Tips to get Your House ready for guests

The number one tip to make your house ready for guests is to make sure that your home is inviting

A lot of people think that their house needs to be spotless and perfect for guests to be able to come over. But that’s way stressful! The thing you want to focus on the most is making your home inviting where your guests feel welcome. Here are tips to help you accomplish this!

Flowers on Table | Getting Your House Ready for Guests

It’s okay for your house to be messy- not dirty.

I always find that the first thing that someone does when they find out that guests are coming over is they go right into “I have to make sure everything is perfect” mode. But the reality is that when you have babies and children in your house that your house is not going to “perfect” for any longer than 5 minutes. Because truth is, your children are going to take out their toys and make a mess all over again. It can’t be helped!

Accept the fact that your house can be messy without being dirty.

So instead of trying to make sure your house is perfect, just focus on making sure your house is not dirty. No one wants to visit a dirty house. And by dirty I mean trash overflowing, food crusted dishes in the sink, the pets wee wee pads not cleaned, and your living room in a cloud of dust. These are the things that you should be focusing on when people come over.

But if your house is just “messy”, then I think that’s perfectly okay. I know some moms would be giving me the evil eye for saying that but sometimes there are things that happen in our house that can’t be prevented because we have a family. So this is my definition of “messy”:

  • the kids’ toys are out because they just finished playing
  • the dishes are drying in the rack and not fully put away
  • the jackets hanging by the door are not in the closet
  • the shoes by the door are not perfectly straightened up
  • etc.

These things I can live with! Being dirty is something that I cannot love with.

Candle | Getting Your House ready for guests

Focus on Scent

One of the easiest ways to make your guests feel welcome and make your home be inviting is to focus on scent. Scent is one of those things that evoke so much emotion and feeling. If your house smells like day old fish then no one is going to want to sit on your couch and watch a movie.

One of the things I do is make sure I always have candles on hand! A candle is amazing because not only does it smell great and can make your home smell good fast, but it also sets an ambiance and elevates the mood of a space.

If you have little ones, be sure to put candles high enough for them not to touch! And if you have climbing toddlers who like to get into everything then maybe you can just put some diffusers out or use plugin scents!

It's okay for your children's toys to be out | getting your house ready for guests

Instead of mass decluttering, just organize

Usually, when you have to get your house ready for guests the first thing you do is want to clean, clean, clean. And while I’m totally on board for straightening up and making sure things are clean, I don’t usually focus on mass decluttering.

I’m a stay at home mom of an 18-month-old so there are constantly toys everywhere and just when I put something away 2 seconds later it’s all over the floor again. Because of this, I can’t totally declutter! So instead, I just focus on organizing.

Remember, it’s perfectly okay to have things out- just make sure it’s organized and “looks” neat. Don’t get too hung up on having everything perfect and clear. Kids are kids so your guests will understand that your kids’ toys are out!

Dishes | Prepping your house for guests

Make sure the dishes are done

One of the easiest ways to get your house ready for guests in a flash is to make sure that the dishes are done and the countertops are clean. You have no idea how a dirty pile of dishes in the sink makes your home look dirty. To make your house “look” clean, make sure to do the dishes! It’s one of those little secrets to making your home “appear” clean when it’s not perfect.

Start cleaning a couple days before the guests arrive

I know this is super obvious and goes without saying, but if you know guests are coming a couple days in advance, then try not to procrastinate and start cleaning a little bit a day. You don’t have to go crazy, but it will save you’re your sanity by cleaning day by day instead of just mass cleaning 2 hours before guests are arriving.

Mopping | Prepping Your House for Guests

A clean floor goes a long way

While your house doesn’t have to be perfectly cleaned and decluttered, be sure to clean your floors. Whether you do a quick vacuum on your carpets or a quick Swiffer to your floors- it makes all the difference! A shiny floor will automatically trump the fact that you have toy bins all over the place. This is one of the tips that differentiates your house being messy and dirty. It’s okay for your house to be a bit messy because of the children, but you don’t want your house to be dirty.

Clean the bathroom

Another tip to get your house ready for guests in a super easy way is to flash clean your bathroom. This just means to do a quick wipe down of the sink, counters, mirrors, and toilet. Maybe even throw some toilet bowl cleaner and do a quick flush so your toilet bowl is nice and sparkly. Quickly fold any towels and do a sweep and you’re done!

Cleaning the Toilet | Getting Your house ready for guests

Don’t underestimate a good wipe down

To reinforce the “it’s okay messy but not dirty” tip, one of the ways to make sure your house is clean is to do a quick wipe down of surfaces. So wipe down your tables, counters, side tables, ottomans, and entertainment centers. You can even use a Swiffer to do a quick dust down of your living room and shelves. Trust me, it takes all of 5 minutes!

It’s okay to keep doors closed

Another tip to get your house ready for guests is to know that it’s okay to keep some of your doors closed. When I know there are guests coming over and I haven’t had a chance to clean like I wanted to, like fold the laundry in the basket and put away some shopping bags, I usually just put it all in my room and close the door. It feels like cheating but it’s not!

So, don’t feel bad if you need to throw some “cluttered” items in your room and just shut the door. You’re not a bad mom or host for it!

Getting Your House ready for Guests

Don’t forget to have drinks and snacks

I sometimes forget this tip the most because I’m so worried about cleaning, but a good tip to get your house ready for guests is to make sure you have drinks and snacks for your guests. Or at least a plan for drinks or snacks.

Sometimes I just make a pitcher of iced tea and throw open a couple of bags of chips and I’m done. Other times when I didn’t have as much time to prepare food or drinks for guests I just involve them in the process and have my guests help me make something.

My friends LOVE doing this anyway! They love to feel included and to help me out. Or you can just order some food from a local restaurant and have it delivered. There are so many options! Just be sure to have some sort of plan or else your guests are going to sit there parched!

You can also never go wrong with a pot of coffee and some cookies!

Stuffing your face with turkey and cranberry sauce has never looked so good! And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, throw in some fun family traditions and you got yourself one amazing holiday.

I like to think of traditions like the glitter glue in our family- something that is not super necessary but adds great reinforcement and a little something extra to the family.

If you are looking for some awesome new easy Thanksgiving traditions that your family will love, look no further than here!

Thanksgiving traditions that are easy to do, super fun and ones everyone can participate in will add something special to your wonderful family time that you can look forward to every year!

I love traditions because it’s something that can easily be passed down from generation to generation.

Here are a couple of fun and easy Thanksgiving traditions your family is sure to love!

4 Awesome FamilyThanksgiving Traditions

1. Pot Luck

A really great Thanksgiving tradition is to have your Thanksgiving dinner be a potluck.

This means that instead of one family member making most of the meal, everyone who is attending Thanksgiving dinner has to bring an aspect of the meal. So maybe mom makes the turkey, your brother makes the sides, and you make the desserts.

Not only is this a great way to get everyone involved but it also really helps the main host because it doesn’t put so much pressure on them to make a full meal for a bunch of people.

It’s also really fun to see what everyone brings! I like to assign different people in my family to make things that they specialize in so we get to tastes everyone’s specialty foods! It’s super fun!

White Pumpkins | Thanksgiving Traditions

2. Having someone say grace

My family is religious so before we sit down for a family meal my dad always blesses the food and says grace. But a really cool Thanksgiving tradition is for a different person in your family you say grace over Thanksgiving dinner each year.

This makes everyone feel important and special and gives everyone something to look forward to each year!

Thanksgiving Pie | Thanksgiving Traditions

3. What You’re Thankful for

Another fun Thanksgiving tradition is to have everyone at Thanksgiving dinner say what they are thankful for and what the highlight of their year was. Sometimes we don’t always say thank you to someone because it’s usually implied with family.

But on Thanksgiving, we really capitalize on the day and immerse our day with gratitude. You’d be surprised by what everyone says and how encouraged it will make you feel!

It also teaches the little ones in the family about gratitude and how the family is always there for each other and the true meaning of Thanksgiving.

Christmas Gift & Pinecone | Thanksgiving Traditions

4. Kringles

One of my absolute favorite Thanksgiving traditions is the giving of Kringles! A kringle is a little gift that you get before Christmas and is usually Christmas themed.

One of my family Thanksgiving traditions is to exchange kringles after dinner on Thanksgiving night. It’s our family’s way of saying “hello Christmas!”.

After we ate all of our food, had our seconds, and shared what we are thankful, it’s time to welcome in the next wonderful holiday of Christmas.

Tips to Help You Out of Your Mom Fog

Mom Life

Tips to get you out of your mom fog

Inside: As a busy mom it’s so easy to find yourself lost in “mom fog”. Check out these practical and realistic tips that can help you out of your mom fog and learn how to stay out!

It was 2:00pm but it felt like 2:00am. My eyes were heavy, my hair looked like a bird’s nest, and I was moving at a sloth’s pace. I see my husband talking but all I heard was the sound of white noise. I was consumed by my mom fog and was failing to take care of myself.

Being a mom is amazing but when you become a mother, everything about you changes. Your priorities, your responsibilities, your daily tasks — everything. But what do you do when you feel like you lost yourself to motherhood?

First and foremost, you need to KNOW that feeling like you are lost in a mom fog is completely normal. Almost every mom experiences this feeling in some shape or form. Whether its 100% or 5%.

Do NOT beat yourself up when you feel overwhelmed with motherhood!

When you feel like you are losing yourself to motherhood, the most important thing to do is to be preventative and to take care of yourself- emotionally, mentally, and physically- right away.

We all know that motherhood is not for the faint of heart but when you find ways to encourage yourself and surround yourself with a support system, things become SO much easier!

Here are some tips to help you out of mom fog- when you feel like you are just lost, overwhelmed, and stressed with mom life.

Tips to Help You Out of Mom Fog | Lost Yourself to Motherhood | Self Care | Mom Life Tips | New Mom Advice | Postpartum | Stay at Home Mom | #momlife #mom #stayathomemom

What “mom fog” may feel like:

  • You feel “trapped”
  • You may feel you “lost yourself to motherhood”
  • You can easily get stir crazy being at home for long periods of time
  • You can be easily irritated and lose your patience
  • You don’t do your beauty or health routines that you did before you were a mom
  • You feel you need “space”
  • You feel you never have time alone
  • You feel your whole day revolves around your children’s schedule
  • You rarely buy anything for yourself or focus on things you like to do

Tips to Help You Out of Your Mom Fog

Mom Friends | Mom Support

Share your feelings & Find Support

One of the most important things to do when you feel you are lost in a mom fog is to find support and share your feelings with someone you love. Don’t bottle up your feelings and feel like the world is against you.

Raising a baby takes a village, and so does being a mom. Having people around you that love you, support you and care for you is essential!

Even if you feel like they won’t understand, take a chance and trust someone with how you are feeling. You might be surprised at how much they understand you. Or talk to another mother- she may be able to encourage you and tell you that she went through the same thing!

Trust me, every mother experiences some sort of mom fog!

Focus on Self Care and Rest

Focus on self-care

Mom life is all about being selfless. It’s putting all of your energy into caring for another human being. But sometimes we focus so much on caring for our children and family that we forget to care for ourselves.

Making time to pamper yourself and tend to YOU is SO crucial.

Think of yourself as a cup. In order to “pour out” into your baby and your husband and your family, your cup needs to be full. Or else you will be pouring out nothing!

Self-care is willingly choosing to fill up your cup. Do things that make you happy. Go out for coffee. Get your nails done. Take a long bubble bath. Or wake up every morning and read a chapter of your favorite book. Do anything that is focusing on YOU!

One day at a time!

Take a step back

When you start to feel like you are head deep in a mom fog, you need to take a step back. Maybe have your husband put the kids down for bed or go for a walk or a drive to your favorite place. You want to remove yourself from the situation that is making you feel lost.

The best thing to do when I start to feel like I’m losing myself is to immediately to be preventative. Taking a step back can be the very thing you need to do in order to prevent losing yourself even further.

Take a breather and try to engulf yourself is things that make you feel better and valuable.

Holding Hands | Spending Time with Your Spouse

Spend time with your spouse

I know this seems crazy, but one of the things that REALLY helps me when I’m feeling lost in mom fog is to spend alone time with my husband. For some reason it makes me remember all of the times that we were just husband and wife and not mom and dad.

And it makes me feel SO much better. A lot of the time we think because we are a mom that we have to do things all by ourselves. But just like Superman needs his power from the sun, so do we.

Spending some quality time with your spouse can be the “power source” you need that can stabilize you and encourage you on a weekly or daily basis. When I’m honest with my husband about what I’m feeling, he has this habit of just taking away all of my worries by telling me what I need to hear.

Find something that will encourage you daily

Feeling like you are in a huge mom fog can be something that occurs more than once. But you want to be able to prevent that sinking feeling by having things on hand that you know is guaranteed to encourage you.

Try to find things that you know will encourage you on a daily basis. Try to pinpoint the things that make you feel like you are losing yourself and combat those things with encouragement.

Maybe you can make a weekly schedule that is just for you that has all of the things that you want to accomplish for yourself. Write down the things you want to eat that week, or how many times you want to exercise, or the times that you want some alone time. Do things that make you feel GOOD!

Mama Love

Remember that being a mom is the best job in the world!

I know it’s really easy to get overwhelmed and stressed about all of the things that come along with being a mother but it’s so important to remember how amazing mom life is.

Sure, it may be something that’s completely different than what you were doing before you had your baby but motherhood is just that- a whole new world.

Being a mom is the hardest thing I’ve ever done but it’s also the most satisfying and rewarding thing I’ve ever experienced. For every bad day, for every diaper splatter, for every long night, and sleepless day comes beautiful, rewarding, worthwhile moments with your baby.

Mom Glow Challenge

Ashley Kurtz from A Modern Cinderella really make some amazing points:

“Although I don’t know a mom that doesn’t cherish a handmade gift from her child, some of the gifts lack in longevity, and after a while, they can really start to take up space. These Marble Ring Holders are inexpensive, easy-to-make, and have a lot of room for customization! Kids will love marbling and shaping the clay, and moms will love a gift that is beautiful and practical!”
