The Best Ways to Fight Morning Sickness & Feel Better!

Pregnancy Life

Easy morning sickness remedies to help fight nausea

Inside: Struggling with extreme nausea during pregnancy? Find out 11 easy morning sickness remedies to help you feel like yourself again!

I took another heaping spoonful of my husband’s delicious homemade beef stew and immediately froze. My stomach started to turn and I felt something rising…

I sprinted to the bathroom trying not to breathe.

It took me exactly 10 days after my positive pregnancy test to be welcomed by the dreaded reality of morning sickness—more like ALL DAY sickness.

Not fun!

After that day, I struggled with extreme morning sickness and was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum for over 15 weeks.

It’s so hard to be happy about your pregnancy when you can’t even breathe without feeling nauseous. Trust me, I know…

But here’s the good news—you don’t have to just suffer through morning sickness!

After experiencing extreme morning sickness for most of my pregnancy, I learned the best tips and tricks to help you manage & prevent nausea, keep food down, and stay hydrated.

Here are my 11 easy morning sickness remedies that literally SAVED. MY. LIFE.

The Best Easy Morning Sickness Remedies to Fight Extreme Nausea

1. Avoid Smelly Smells

There’s nothing worse than taking a whiff of your favorite food only for it to send you straight to the toilet.

I absolutely LOVE bacon…but when my husband surprised me with breakfast in bed, all I could do was sprint to the bathroom—just from the smell alone!

The first easy morning sickness remedy is to avoid strong smells. Every pregnancy is different so what makes me sick may be the very thing that makes you feel better!

The only way to know what smells make you sick, is, unfortunately, to experience the smell first.

Once you know what smells make you sick, then you can avoid them at all costs.

To avoid strong smells:
  • Keep your windows open
  • Remove yourself from where the smell is and close the door (Stuff a towel under the door too!)
  • Replace the bad smell with a good one (like a candle or essential oil)

Best Ways to Fight Morning Sickness

3. Wear loose clothing

A tight band can literally take your breath away. Anything that is restricting around your abdomen and chest can enhance nausea. I learned this the hard way!

I was finally 12 weeks and wanted to take a cute bump picture so I threw on my favorite leggings—bad idea.

Turns out the leggings acted more like Spanx and nausea hit me like a tsunami. Just because my leggings were tight!

The same goes for bras too. If you find yourself more nauseous than not, make sure to invest in a maternity bra that fits you well and is comfortable!

I purchased this one from Amazon and it’s super comfy and affordable!

4. Eat every hour

I know this morning sickness remedy is super popular- but it’s popular for a reason!

I leaned the very hard way that waiting too long in between meal times can really aggravate nausea.

You don’t have to eat huge meals either. It’s actually better to eat smaller meals and snacks throughout the day to keep your stomach from feeling empty.

During my first 13 weeks of morning sickness, I ate every single hour- even if it was 2 crackers.

The sensation of having something in my system kept me from feeling like I had to hurl every other minute!

11 Easy Morning Sickness Remedies

5. Take small sips of cold water

This morning sickness remedy was a complete game changer! I heard from many moms who experienced hyperemesis gravidarum tell me not to drink cold water…or really anything cold. So, I always stayed away from anything that was chilled.

But one night I woke up in a hot sweat from my nausea and I decided to take a sip of cold water…and it was like a miracle.

Not only was I instantly cooled down but my nausea actually subsided!

Ever since that night, every hour when I eat my small snack I always try to drink a couple of sips of cold water.

I found that I was not only able to keep it down, but it also felt reeaaalllyyyy good.

The best ways to fight extreme morning sickness

6. Travel just after you eat

One of the worst feelings is the combination of morning sickness AND car sickness!

This morning sickness remedy is one that I swore by because it helped me combat feeling nauseous in the car.

Instead of driving to the store when I felt my worse “just to get it over with”, I started driving only after I had eaten something and my stomach felt settled.

Any bump or quick turn would also bring on a sudden bought of nausea so it was important that I ate but was not stuffed.

Before traveling by car (or public transportation), make sure to eat a small meal and be sure to carry snacks with you!

7. Don’t lay flat after eating

Nausea is a fickle thing!

Sometimes you feel better when you’re laying down resting, and sometimes you feel better when you sit up- that’s why it’s so important to listen to your body.

But one of the greatest morning sickness and nausea remedies is to be sure to NOT lay down flat after eating.

It’s easy to want to rest all the time (which is basically what I wanted to do for 14 weeks!), but after you have your hourly snack/small meal, be sure to sit up or only slightly lay back for about 15 minutes afterward.

8. B6 & Unisom

This remedy reaalllyyy helped me but always be sure to check with your doctor and OBGYN before taking any medications or supplements.

During my first pregnancy, I also experienced extreme morning sickness and my doctor told me to take over the counter Unisom tablets every night with a B6 vitamin in the morning and evening.

I did the same with this pregnancy and it seemed to take the edge off!

Of course, nothing will FULLY eliminate morning sickness, but it always helps when you can keep it at a faint hum so it doesn’t turn into a roaring thunder.

Talk to your doctor to see if this is something you can do. It’s proven to be completely safe and unharmful to you or your growing baby (so that’s all that matters!)

Hemorrhoids during pregnancy

9. Sea bands

Coupled with B6 and Unisom, I ALWAYS wore sea bands.

Sea Bands are these elastic bands that go around your wrist that have a plastic ball on them which applies pressure to a certain place on your wrist to eliminate nausea.

I first heard of them when I went on a cruise for my honeymoon.

But apparently, they work for pregnancy too!

It’s completely harmless and non-invasive so this morning sickness remedy is an easy one.

I wore them for all 3 pregnancies and on the nights that I didn’t wear them, I always woke up feeling worse.

You can find Sea Bands here

10. Magnesium spray

I found out about this morning sickness remedy from my mother-in-law and it turned out to be a little golden nugget of wisdom.

Magnesium is a really great way to manage and prevent nausea but a pregnant mom doesn’t really need *another thing she needs to take*. Between trying to keep down prenatal vitamins and necessary food, you don’t really want to take another supplement.

That’s why this spray is awesome!

This magnesium spray gives you all the benefits of your body receiving magnesium, without having to consume it. Whenever you’re feeling particularly lousy and nauseous, or even right after you have thrown up, spray some of this magnesium spray on your legs, arms, and torso.

It not only soothes your nausea but also helps aches and pains.

The smell is really comforting too!

It does feel a little “salt watery”- like the ocean- but it didn’t bother me much because it was actually helping me.

Pink Stork makes the best all-natural prenatal products that I absolutely love!

11. Lemons & Eucalyptus

Another really soothing morning sickness remedy is the smell of lemons and eucalyptus. Whether you cut up some lemons and leave them at your bedside or purchase some eucalyptus essential oils, the aroma really calmed, relaxed and soothed me. And when I felt relaxed, my nausea didn’t feel as bad.

That’s why it’s so important to make the immediate space around you as calm and relaxing as possible. You don’t want smells and items around you that will aggravate your morning sickness.

These smells are also proven to reduce nausea so it’s a win-win!

12. Step outside

When all else fails, sometimes fresh air is the answer.

I had absolutely ZERO energy the first 18 weeks of my pregnancy. I would see other moms bounce right back into their normal life at 13 weeks and I was SO jealous because I felt like I just wanted to crawl under a rock and die.

BUT even though I didn’t have the energy to exercise or even walk far, sometimes just sitting outside on a bench was all I needed. The fresh air was relaxing and I always seemed to feel better for those couple of minutes.

If you are feeling up to it, go for a 5-10 minute walk just to get your body moving. Sometimes out muscles tend to cramp up just because we aren’t feeling well and aren’t using them.

Going for a slow walk, even for a couple of minutes, can really be just the thing you need!

The most important morning sickness remedy: Listen to your body

It is absolutely imperative that you ALWAYS listen to your body. Even If the smartest person in the world tells you to do something that would make you feel better if you see that it isn’t helping- then don’t do it.

You are the only one who can understand what you can and cannot do.

You are the only one who knows what you can and cannot eat.

Only do as much as you can take. If your body is not responding well to something, then put it on pause and go rest.

Even if you feel like you are eating something you’re “suppose” to be eating but it is making you sick- take a break from that item and try it again in a couple of weeks.

You are growing a miracle and that’s no easy task!

Be sure to follow your instincts and listen to your body.

YOU know what’s best.

Keep your Doctor in the loop

And remember, always keep your doctor updated on how you are feeling and what remedies you are doing.

If you find yourself not being able to keep anything down for more than 24 hours, call your doctor. It’s important to stay hydrated!

I hope these morning sickness remedies are able to help you as they helped me. No ONE remedy completely eliminated by morning sickness but pairing all of the remedies together seemed to really help me manage the craziness that I was experiencing.

Extreme morning sickness is not for the faint of heart. And no one can really understand it unless they went through it themselves.

But rest assured- you are NOT alone!

4 Easy Mom Hacks to Prevent Car Seat Battles

Baby Routines

What to do when your baby hates the car seat

Inside: Baby hates the car seat? Learn the 4 easy tips to help make your car seat battles seem like history!

We’ve all been there…

Where car door is flung open to maximum capacity as you are trying to wrangle your child into the car seat while your little one flails their body around like a fish out of water.

Then, as if perfectly on cue, you hear the subtle hum of the car behind you inching closer and closer trying to get into the spot that your open door is currently occupying.

You signal a sorry sign to the driver as your baby refuses to be bucked in.

The driver gives you *the eye roll*.

Trust me, we’ve ALL been there.

When your baby hates the car seat, running errands can be almost impossible. But it doesn’t have to be!

My daughter was the queen of car seat tantrums, but I started using fun tips and tricks and now, she loves her car seat!

I’ll show you the 5 easy tips that you can do when your baby hates the car seat and how to turn those struggles into successes.

Baby hates the car seat? Here are 5 easy mom hacks to end car seat battles:

  1. Start on the right foot
  2. Create a diversion
  3. Have special car toys
  4. Kiddie Playlist
  5. Combine Trips

Let’s get down to the details of these easy tips!

What to do when your baby hates the car seat

One day Baby L was absolutely refusing to sit in her car seat…I’m talking head rearing, back-arching, screaming.

I was at a complete loss of what to do.

The driver honking at me didn’t help either.

If you’ve ever been in this frustrating pickle, I’m sending you a virtual hug!

These mom life hacks can help make car seat troubles seem like history 🙂

Before you start to walk to your car, here are 5 mini mom life hacks to make the car seat buckling as smooth as possible:

1. Start on the right foot

The first tip to preventing car seat troubles is to prepare your baby before you get to the car.

Before you start walking to the car, is when you’ll want to get everything ready that you need.

(Those items will come later in the next tips so keep reading!)

But the key is to start on the right foot.

If you know your baby hates the car seat, you want to keep your little one as calm as possible beforehand, so it’s not a completely apocalyptic situation.

2. Create a diversion

The next tip to ending car seat battles is to distract your baby as much as possible.

Just like when your baby is getting a shot or doing something else they really hate, you want to create a diversion so you are drawing their attention away from the fact that they are getting in the car.

You can create a diversion by handing your child a:

  • favorite snack,
  • a little toy,
  • or even a shiny object (baby appropriate).

Pack your diaper bag with things that you KNOW your baby will love. Then before you even see the car, hand your baby the distraction.

Your little one will be so occupied that they don’t even care about being restrained.

Side Tip: If your baby gets distracted and then quickly notices they are sitting in the car seat and gets upset, use the next 2 tips!

How to prevent car seat battles in 4 easy steps

3. Have special car toys

If your baby hates the car seat, you may need to take extra precautionary measures.

For me, this meant hiding special toys in the back seat pockets…

What are special toys?

A special car toy is a toy that your baby only plays with in the car. This can help make the car seat a fun, special activity instead of a dreadful one.

When Baby L was just 6 months old, she had a special car mobile that we would bring with us and it really calmed her down.

As she got older and turned 1, we made a little car toy bag that we left in the car with her baby dolls and “toy remote control” that she loved.

Now that she’s 2, we purchased this V-Tech car steering wheel and it has worked wonders!

Using “special” toys that your baby can only play with while in the car help makes the car a special/fun thing for your little one to look forward to.

4. Kiddie Playlist

The fourth tip to help your baby’s aversion to car seats is to create a fun kid playlist!

Put together a playlist of your child’s favorite songs or nursery rhymes that you know will get them excited. As you are buckling them in, sing the songs and make it fun!

Singing and doing nursery rhythm hand movements (such as the itsy bitsy spider) is another create a diversion for your baby.

This is a great way to get their mind off of being angry about being restrained.

These are the songs we have on our kid playlist:

  • Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Theme Song
  • Fancy Nancy Theme Song
  • Let It Go from Frozen
  • You’ve Got a Friend in Me from Toy Story

If you have Spotify, you can also download a Mother Goose Nursery Rhyme playlist that is already created for you. All you have to do is press play!

5. Combine Trips

My new motto since becoming a mom is: never do 5 trips when it can only take 2!

It’s always best to plan your errands in a way that prevents your having to take your little one in and out of the car seat 10 different times.

I started running errands at places that have a cluster of stores so I can eliminate needing to drive to the next place. It’s been a sanity saver!

I learned to not just run my errands aimlessly. When you have a baby with you, you want to plan out your errands in a way that works best for your little one’s routine.

If there’s a way to hit one store that can eliminate 2 different errands, that’s the way to go!

How To Easily Shop With Kids (Tantrum Free!)

Toddler Routines

Easily go shopping with kids

Inside: Want to easily go shopping with kids? Find out the best 5 tips to help you prevent meltdowns!

Have you ever been the mom standing on the checkout line and your child decides to go completely ballistic? You know, full-on meltdown, tantrum stomping, or red-faced screaming…

You try absolutely everything to calm your little one down but nothing seems to be working.

You immediately look around and see all of the other people staring at you, wondering why you can’t “get your baby under control”.

Embarrassment sets in. Anger starts to rise. And you lose your patience.

The domino effect is in full swing.

I have been there ppllleennntttyyy of times!

And if this has ever happened to you, know this—you are NOT a bad mom.

Babies and toddlers are little people with their own emotions who can’t clearly express themselves yet. Yes, meltdowns at the checkout line are not fun—but that’s ok, it’s a part of motherhood!

I’m going to share some of the best tips to help you shop with kids and easily run errands with your baby or toddler.

Of course, you can’t control everything your baby or toddler will do and feel, but you can prevent meltdowns and use special tactics to divert the crisis!

The top 5 tips to easily go shopping with kids are:

  1. Pack an epic busy bag
  2. Have “special goodies” on hand
  3. Plan around routine
  4. Practice patience
  5. Put on listening ears

With these 5 tips, you will be running errands left and right with your little one—tantrum & meltdown free!

Let’s jump into these tips!

5 Tips to Easily Go Shopping with Kids

One day I was standing on the Bath and Body Works checkout line, with a basket filled to the brim with items and my daughter decided to have a full-on “toddler moment”.

Everyone around me quickly glared my way.

I thought to myself how in the world people can be so judgmental and condescending to a mother, who clearly has her hands full.

My anger wasn’t towards my daughter, it was at the people around me for escalating the situation and making me feel like a bad mom.

After that day, I swore to myself I would try to work at making these shopping trips easier for my daughter.

I’ve been implementing these tips for the past couple of days (since our last Bath & Body Works incident) and it’s realllllyyyy been helping….

1. Pack an epic diaper bag/toddler bag

A perfectly packed bag is a complete life-saver!

You want to make sure everything your little one needs is in there. From wipes to snacks, you want that bag to be the one-stop-shop for everything that you will need.

Be sure to pack your child’s favorite snacks, drinks, toys, and games!

Here are some things I always have on hand:

  • Apple Sauce On the Go Pouches
  • Organic Fruit Snacks
  • Happy Baby Freeze-Dried Yogurt Bites
  • Apple & Eve Juice Boxes
  • Miracle No-Spill Sippy Cup

Here’s my famous diaper bag checklist that I use when for our outings. As my daughter got older, I changed a few items, but the gist of it stayed the same.

You can download my free printable Diaper Bag Checklist below!

Fun Apps that don’t need internet

If I know I have to run a lot of errands or shop for a while, sometimes I download Mother Goose Club episodes to the Netflix app so my daughter can watch them without internet.

You can use Netflix, Vudu, Disney+ and other apps to download shows and movies to your device so your child can be occupied, even if you don’t have internet.

I don’t mind letting my daughter watch educational shows while I shop. It keeps her content, it’s educational, and since it’s not a part of her everyday routine—it’s a treat for her!

Here are some fun game apps that don’t require internet:

  • Baby Coloring
  • Disney Jigsaw! Puzzles
  • Disney Coloring
  • Daniel Tiger Neighborhood Game

How to easily shop with kids| tantrum free

2. Special Goodies

Don’t underestimate the power of the word “special”!

I recently started putting things aside that I know my daughter really likes and only using them during our outings.

She knows those are her “special goodies” for when she’s a good girl and mommy is running errands.

One of her special treats is screen-time (like I mentioned above), but other goodies include glitter stickers, special lollipops.

Here are some “special goodies” that I stock up on:

  • Water Wow On the Go Coloring Book
  • Toddler Learning Tablet
  • Peek & Play Surprise Eggs

By stocking up these fun “special goodies”, you can easily go shopping and your little one will be entertained until no end!

3. Routine is king

If you’re trying to avoid a meltdown in the middle of a store, you want to be sure to go out when your child is most likely going to be in a good mood.

An overtired child is a miserable one.

To easily go shopping with kids, the best thing to do is try to plan your outings around your child’s naps.

If you track your baby’s routine, you’ll see a stretch of time where your little one is happy and content.

That is a primetime window for outings!

(Of course, not all errands can be based off your little one’s routine, but it’s a good rule of thumb for easy outings)

Try to keep your child’s routine as close to normal as possible.

  • If your little one needs to nap, try to plan the outing where they can sleep in the car.
  • If your baby needs to eat, plan your day to be at a certain place at a certain time so you can feed.

Keeping up with routine will help prevent your child from feeling “displaced” and ultimately needing to have a meltdown!

4. When shopping with kids, Patience is a Virtue

This tip is more for us- the overtired stressed mamas of the world!

Having patience and not overreacting is a big part of keeping your child calm. Our children feed off our emotions and mood.

So, if you want to have a successful & easy outing, try to stay as calm as possible.

I KNOW it’s hard! But you will thank yourself for it 🙂

Picking your battles will probably be one of the hardest things you have to do, but having patience and staying calm with your little one will help them stay calm too.

To go shopping with kids means to put on your patient hat!

5. Listening Ears

This is one of my best toddler tips!

Whenever my Baby L isn’t listening to me I tell her to look at me and then I start to “turn on” my listening ears (making a hand motion as if I’m turning my ears like a knob).

Then I ask her to turn on her listening ears.

All you have to do is:

  • Make eye contact with your child
  • Do a hand motion as if you are turning your ears like a knob
  • Say “please turn on your listening ears”

This is really great to get your kid’s attention and get them to follow directions!

If you’re going shopping with kids old enough to understand when they need to pay attention, “listening ears” is a great tactic to get them involved and motivated to listen.

Using this kind of approach (rather than the “why aren’t you listening to me??” approach) will help you connect with your little one so they are more receptible to what you are asking.

Let’s get down to it!

13 Tips for Traveling Alone with Toddler

Traveling alone with my toddler was not on my to-do list. But my parents asked to take my daughter to Disney World and it seemed like an amazing opportunity that I couldn’t pass up. We found out my husband couldn’t get off work those days so I decided to fly her down there by myself.

We’ve traveled plenty as times as a family—and even that seemed like an endeavor. How could I possibly fly solo with my toddler??

Here are 13 awesome tips that I used…

1. Pack smart

The first tip to traveling alone with a toddler is to pack your bags SMART.

To pack smart:

  • Eliminate unnecessary bags
  • Pack light

By following these 2 simple steps, you can pack smarter and not harder!

Eliminate unnecessary bags

If you have a couple of smaller bags, such as a crossbody, pack it in a larger bag so it’s one less thing to keep track of.

When I travel, I use a huge tote as my carry on (for under the seat) and then pack my laptop, purse, and essentials in there. It’s everything in one place.

Another great tip to eliminate extra bags is to roll your clothes. This creates more space in your bags so you can pack more in them. You’re efficiently using all space so you don’t have to bring any more bags. If you’re packing shoes, you can also fit socks and little knick-knacks in them!

Pack light

I know it’s easy to overpack, especially when you’re traveling with kids. You immediately think of the things you *may* need, so you tend to pack more than you should.

But the key to packing light is to ask yourself what are your essentials. And if you forget something, will your destination have it?

It’s also good to know if your destination has a washer/dryer. This will eliminate the need to pack more outfits so you can rotate them!

Do the same with packing for your toddler. If your little one is potty training (or newly potty trained) you’ll want to make sure you have enough clothes for accidents.

I usually pack light so I can make sure my daughter has everything she needs.

2. Use a checklist

Checklists absolutely save my sanity! When I’m about to travel I have a million things rolling around in my head so having a list of things to do and pack helps me ensure I’m not forgetting anything.

Have a running list of everything you need to get done and then make a list of everything you want to pack. As you begin to remember more things, add them to your list.

To save you time (and sanity!) I created a FREE Toddler Travel Checklist to help you make sure you have everything!

It also comes with a FREE Toddler Bag Checklist, so you have everything on hand while traveling.

I created a checklist from my personal travel list that I’ve used over 25 times and also a checklist template, so you can create your own list.

Don’t worry about packing too much or too little or forgetting something. Download the checklists now!

3. Organize your toddler diaper bag

When you’re running around the airport with a toddler on your arm and a suitcase in your hand the last thing you want is to be rummaging around your diaper bag for a wipe.

That’s why the third tips to easily travel alone with your toddler is to organizer your toddler diaper bag before you leave.

You want to use each pocket of the bag for a category and then fill that pocket with those things. I usually organize my bag like this:

  • Pocket 1 Sanitizing: Travel Lysol wipes, unbleached wipes, hand sanitizer
  • Pocket 2 Snacks: Apple sauce pouches, fruit snacks, crackers, yogurt bites, etc.
  • Large Pocket Bathroom Essentials: Wipes, extra clothes, travel potty seat, underwear (or diapers), diaper cream, etc.
  • Pocket 3 First Aid: Band-Aids, Neosporin, Benadryl Gel, etc.

This helps me know where each item in the bag is!

4. Use a stroller

If you’re traveling somewhere that will require a lot of walking (like Disney world or an amusement park), you’ll definitely want to bring a stroller. But having a stroller in the airport can also be a lifesaver.

Some airports are really big and there is a lot of walking and trams you have to take to get to your gate. Your toddler can easily become really tired and cranky.

Having a stroller prevents that meltdown!

If your little one doesn’t always want to sit in a stroller, that’s okay too! The stroller then becomes a cart for you to put your bags on and free up your hands. I’ve traveled alone with my toddler and the stroller was one of my best ideas.

You don’t have to check your stroller when you arrive at the airport. When you get to your gate, go to the attendant and they will give you a gate check tag.

When you begin boarding, you’ll leave the stroller at the plane door and the crew will place it under the plane. When you arrive at your destination, the stroller will be at the airplane door, right where you left it!

That way, you don’t have to wait until the carousel to get your stroller.

PRO TIP: To prevent your stroller from getting damaged, bring a travel stroller bag. Just place your stroller in the bag before you leave it on the runway. That way, it won’t get scuffed up or scratched!

5. Bring a car seat

Depending on how old your toddler is, you may want to bring a car seat. Car seats are not required for toddler travel (double-check your airline’s policy before you fly!).

But it may be smart to bring one depending on your situation.

My daughter does well in her car seat. When she’s in it, she knows not to try to get up. If she were sitting in a regular plane seat, she would want to run around the whole flight!

I purchased a lightweight travel car seat to use when we travel and it has been a godsend.

If you are also planning on renting a car or using a vehicle at your destination, then you’ll need a car seat anyway. It saves money to bring your own rather than to rent one.

Since you already paid for your toddler’s seat, the car seat flies just fine, at no extra cost.

If you’re traveling to a destination where someone is picking you up and you already have a car seat, then you can skip the car seat altogether.

Do what works best for you!

This is a picture of how I carried the car seat, stroller, and suitcases by myself with a toddler. It wasn’t bad at all!

6. Have travel documents on hand/in-app

The next tip for traveling with a toddler as easy as possible is to have all of your travel documents in a reachable location. Whether it be your pocket, your purse, your phone case, or a bookbag—place your ID and boarding pass somewhere that’s easy to locate.

Most airlines have apps where you can access your boarding pass electronically. This reduces the number of things you need to carry!

7. Follow these steps to breeze through security

Going through airport security is a headache. Add a toddler to that picture and you have yourself one stressful situation.

But it doesn’t have to be!

Because you already packed light and eliminates unnecessary bags, all you have to do is get them on the conveyor belt.

  • First, take off your shoes.
  • Then, place your larger bags on the table (removing any laptops and devices).
  • Next, you’ll want to take off anything that can’t go through the metal detector (phone, jacket, shoes, keys, wallet, etc.).
  • Lastly, place the diaper bag on the table, taking out any liquids and food that they need to check. You’ll be able to bring things that you normally wouldn’t because you have a toddler, such as milk.

Be sure to let the attendant know that it’s a diaper bag.

8. Pack liquids in a sealable bag

While we’re talking about security, be sure to pack all of your liquids in a Ziploc or resealable baggy. If they ask you to remove liquids, then all you have to do is take out that bag. And if something ever spills, it won’t get on your clothes or spread through your bag!

It’s a win-win!

9. Board early

Most airlines will give you priority boarding because you have a child. They will usually make a call for “parties traveling with strollers and car seats”.

This gives you enough time to make it to your seat and drop off your stroller and gives them enough time to store your stroller. Be sure to take advantage of this boarding!

10. Place necessities in the seat pocket

When you finally board, it’s GO-time. You’ll want to place the bags overhead, secure the car seat (if you have one) and then sit your toddler down. Then place the smaller bags under the seat. But before you do that, take out essentials that you and your toddler will need during the first 30 minutes of your flight.

A bottle, sippy cup, snack, activity, phone, headphones—anything that you’ll need for the ascension. Then place all those things in the seat pocket in front of you.

It removes the need for you to bend down to get something in your bag once the flight has begun.

Doing this has really saved my sanity!

10 Best Tips to Easily Travel Alone with a Toddler!

11. Use a travel potty

If your toddler is potty trained, then using the airport bathrooms can be a concern of yours. Yes, there are toilet seat covers, but most toddlers don’t fit on those huge adult size toilets.

The solution for both of these problems is a travel potty seat!

I purchased this super affordable travel potty seat on amazon and it’s been a game-changer. It suctions to any size toilet and folds up into a little travel bag. I’ve been using it for almost 6 months and I never go anywhere without it!

You can transform any public toilet into a place where your child feels comfortable within seconds.

I never travel without it!

12. Use a harness

One of my worst fears in the world is my daughter running off at the airport and getting lost. Enter the harness—which can really be a lifesaver, especially if traveling alone with a toddler.

Using a harness can help you keep a rein on your wild toddler and prevent them from running off. In high traffic, busy public areas when your toddler refuses to sit in their stroller (let’s face it, we’ve all been there…) having a harness will help you feel secure that your toddler is with you at all times.

We live in a crazy world. Safety precautions are necessary!

I’ve purchased 2 types of harnesses and switch them out from time to time. One is just basic and the other is a backpack type harness so your toddler won’t mind wearing it.

My daughter doesn’t mind them because they are fun looking and she feels like she’s wearing something special.

13. Sit in a window seat

The last tip for traveling alone with a toddler (by airplane) is to book a window seat. A window seat not only gives you more space but it eliminates you being afraid that your toddler is going to bother the person next to them.

If you are traveling with a car seat, most airlines require you to have a window seat anyway.

The only downside to a window seat is having to ask the person next to you to move when you need to get up. But that’s okay!

Anyone with an aisle seat is fully aware of what they’re getting themselves into.

I rather have more space than be able to exit quickly.

I also book the window seat because it keeps my daughter from wanting to run up and down the plane aisle!
